This bit advice is going to seem counter-intuitive but it’s one of my favorite reminders to mull over in the morning before one goes out to face the day ahead—it’s a way to prepare, philosophically, for what the world has in store us.
The wisdom comes from the Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius who writes in his(a book of ) the following:
I went to the supermarket this morning. I was really hungry.
What do I want for breakfast? Salty? Sweet?
Something light and quick or something filling?
Eggs and toast, maybe with an avocado sliced on top? Bean tacos? A cup of coffee and a hearty cookie? A muffin? Maybe chai and fruit!
I learnt this from acclaimed writer Ryan Holiday.
I get it. I bet you have a bunch of big ass dreams.
You wanna be an actor. You wanna be a superstar. You wanna become super rich and famous. You wanna go viral and all online. You wanna be driving nice cars and travel the world to meet hot babes.
But they are just dreams.
